Gary GatesGary Gates

Gary J. Gates is co-author of The Gay and Lesbian Atlas. His doctoral dissertation included the first significant research study of the demography of the gay and lesbian population using US Census data. His work on that subject has been featured in many national and international media outlets. He holds a PhD in Public Policy from the Heinz School of Public Policy and Management at Carnegie Mellon University along with a Master of Divinity degree from St. Vincent College and a BS in Computer Science from the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown.

Mara KieslingMara Keisling

Mara Keisling is the founding Executive Director of the National Center for Transgender Equality. Mara is a transgender-identified woman and a parent. As one of the nation’s leading voices for transgender equality, Mara has appeared on news outlets such as CNN and CSPAN, and is regularly quoted in the New York Times, the Washington Post and hundreds of other national and local print and electronic media.

Since NCTE was founded in 2003, the organization was part of coalition efforts that have won significant advances in transgender equality such as the passage of the first ever transgender-inclusive federal legislation, modification of the State Department rules for changing gender markers on passports, and the historic first Congressional Hearing on transgender issues.

Joe SolomeseJoe Solmonese

Under Joe Solmonese's leadership, the Human Rights Campaign has been an effective, strategic and creative force in lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights advocacy. Solmonese knows that to promote a better life for all of America's LGBT people and their families, HRC must make inroads not only in legislatures, but in workplaces, communities, religious congregations, schools, universities and media outlets. HRC's work reflects this vision: Solmonese has overseen electoral and legislative victories and successful outreach to new audiences. A dynamic speaker with a powerful message, Solmonese is one of the most sought-after political voices in progressive politics today. He appears frequently in the national media as a voice for equality.

Solmonese will leave HRC at the end of March 2012.


George Walker Jr.Reverend George B. Walker, Jr.

Reverend George B. Walker Jr is currently the Vice President of Strategic Partnerships at the Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund and Institute. He was recently appointed by President Obama to serve on the White House Initiative for Historically Black Colleges and Universities. George is a professional leader, mentor, and passionate advocate for diversity and inclusion. His work spans LGBT inclusion, major donor fundraising, strategic planning, and program design for national and international organizations. George is a former Peace Corps volunteer and is fluent in Spanish.
